Teacher Certification FAQ's

Many of the following questions are asked and answered in context in various sections of the information on this website. You are encouraged to read the appropriate sections of the site carefully for additional information.

Can I teach in NB if I do not have a BEd? (Bachelor of Education degree)
Can I complete a BEd on-line at any university?
I hold Masters degrees in Science (or other subject). Will this allow me to teach in NB?
What is a Letter of Professional Standing?
I have a few courses that I took years ago, but I did not complete my certificate upgrade. Can these courses still be used?
Why is my certificate Level lower here in NB than it was in Nova Scotia?
Can the NBTA evaluate my transcripts and determine my certificate level?
Can I teach in NB if I do my degree at a University in Maine?

University of Maine (UMPI or UMFK) graduates are also qualified to teach in NB, provided they have followed a program of studies that meets the NB requirements. These universities are aware of NB's requirements and usually offer a program that meets the standards. The onus is on you, the student, to ensure that you have the minimum requirements. You must apply for and become certified in Maine (or any other jurisdiction where you received your initial teacher education program) before being eligible to apply for certification here in New Brunswick.

Many of your other questions will be answered in detail by reading the sections of the site that relate to your Certification needs. The NBTA is pleased to offer this website as a service to its members and prospective members.
